About Course

Every traveller’s first impression of a country begins at the border.

Developed by the Southern Africa Tourism Alliance (SATA), this course helps immigration, customs, police, port health and tourism officials deliver professional, tourism-aware customer service while maintaining the highest standards of border security.

Border officials perform two essential roles. They protect national borders by enforcing immigration and customs laws, while also representing their country and the wider SADC region to every visitor who arrives. This course strengthens both responsibilities.

Supporting the SADC Tourism Programme 2020–2030, the programme provides practical skills in customer service, cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution and service planning, helping create border experiences that are secure, efficient and welcoming.

How the Course Works

Begin with the welcome module, then complete each module in sequence. New modules unlock automatically as you progress.

Each module is divided into short, easy-to-follow lessons with one or two brief videos. Most conclude with an eight-question assessment, and you’ll need a score of 80% to unlock the next module.

Complete the full course to receive a certificate showing your name and date of completion.
